Why Core Aeration Is so important

April 29th, 2013

Roots need air, water and nutrients to thrive. Core aeration improves all three. Compacted soil lets the water run off instead of being absorbed to the root zone. Poorly aerated soil is more prone to weed and insect infestations. Aeration also dethatches by depositing thatch eating microbes on the lawn. Aeration with an application of grass seed is ideal as the seeds  get into the soil and germinate and thrive.

What`s this about slit-seeding?

April 22nd, 2013

“Over 90% of grass seed spread by traditional broadcast spreaders die with no soil contact!”

Our Slit-Seeding Service is the Ideal Solution for Thin Lawns or Bare Patches

Over-seeding can be a real waste if not done properly. A slit-seeder cuts fine furrows in the soil and deposits the seed in the soil increasing seed germination to over 90%. This eliminates the need (and mess) of applying topdressing to work the seed into the soil. It quickly gives you a fuller more plush lawn and is less expensive than replacing the old turf or re-sodding.

NEW turf seed varieties beat grubs

Introducing, new Lateral Spread (LS™) grass seed for 2013 now included in enviromasters programs. LS™ Perennial Ryegrass is one tough grass – not only able to withstand wear, it also has the ability to self-repair those heavy traffic insect damaged areas Its dark green color, fine leaf texture and dense growth make it an ideal choice for your lawn. Hardy lawn® tall fescue mixture with LS® perennial rye is the ultimate defence against grubs, drought and shade. Susceptible blue grass varieties have been eliminated from this mixture for a worry free lawn. Because of tillering or rhizome formation, LS™ provides a tighter density turf, particularly under stress, and self-recuperation from traffic, wear, or insect injury during the summer stress periods. LS™ tall fescue gives high stand coverage that crowds out weeds and contains moderately high levels of endophyte for improved resistance to surface feeding insects.

Winter lawn damage repair

April 2nd, 2013

Now that the snow is gone, the dregs of winter often reveal themselves as debris on the grass along boulevards, and walks, including, stones, salt damage and compaction from ice and snow banks

Left untended this will result in weak thin grass and allow for an outbreak of the always present crab grass seeds. We have found that our spring lawn repair recovery plan which includes a power sweep to remove debris and open the grass to air and light, along with an over seeding, an application of salt neutralizer and a fertilizer application will quickly restore these areas to a healthy lawn.
